Apple uses Motion Sensor to detect any sudden movement and protect the HDD from damaging. But if you would want to turn it off, here’s how you could do that.
Apple has been making some brilliant portable computers, and MacBook Pros are the most widely used ones. With MacBook Pro, if you lift the laptop all of a sudden from a flat surface, you’ll hear a ‘click’ sound. That click sound is nothing but the motion sensor, which stops the head of the HDD to prevent any data loss due to the sudden change in the devices’ space.
While this is a very useful feature that not many notice, there are some people who’d want to mess up with that. So here’s a quick way to disable that Motion Sensor from turning on during sudden movement. But remember that there might be a data loss if something goes wrong with your HDD while lifting the laptop or during sudden movement.
How to Disable Motion Sensor on your MacBook?
1. Open Terminal (Applications > Terminal)
2. Now, just type: pmset -a sms 0
That’s it. You have just set the SMS (Sudden Motion Sensor) flag to 0. Meaning, you’ve disabled it.
But if you change your mind, and if you want to enable the Motion Sensor again, here’s the code to do so. Just type this in Terminal:
pmset -a sms 1
