BlackBerry Messenger receives a major update. Now has ‘Screen Sharing’, Video and Voice chat.

BlackBerry today revealed that the company’s Messenger would receive a major update. The BlackBerry Messenger would support the Voice and Video Chat features, and also users will be able to share their screen via BlackBerry Messenger.

Its not just a name update for BlackBerry. It’s more than that the company is showing at today’s BlackBerry 10 Event. BlackBerry Messenger, which was sticking onto just text messages now has voice, video and screensharing feartures bundled with it.

The new Voice and Video chatting service is set to compete with Apple’s FaceTime. The screen sharing addition to the feature list is a brilliant move by the company. BlackBerry thinks that this would enable better sharing among the professionals across the world. And I think its the best feature that the BlackBerry Messenger has so far. But this might not be the major selling point for the company. And as we’d expect, the screen sharing feature will not let the other user take control of your screen, but will just let you present (mirror) your screen to the others in the call.

BlackBerry demoed the entire screensharing feature along with voice and video chat on-stage without any disruption. And we’ll get you a video of that demo pretty soon.
