To prove that the service isn’t just used for nefarious purposes, BitTorrent has released the alpha version of it’s integrated torrent service, BitTorrent surf.
The Chrome extension brings you “in-browser discovery and downloading” of torrent files. Surf allows you to look for content across an array of search engines with the option of saving your favourite websites and building a powerful combined search engine using multiple sites.
Surf also allows people to download whole websites and videos conveniently by tying in with the Internet Archive. The ability to play your downloaded content is also integrated into the extension. All in all Surf lets you download, manage and enjoy all you content right from the browser itself.
Surf has been in development for the past 6 months and is still in it’s alpha stage. A version for Firefox is also on it’s way.
