iTunes Music Store lands in India. Songs pricing start at ₹12 and Movie Rentals at ₹80

Apple has launched the iTunes Music Store in India with a very good collection of music and movies, mostly from Bollywood and Kollywood. The song pricing starts from Rs.12 and the entire album priced at Rs. 72. For the movies, the HD version rental would cost you Rs. 120 for 30 Days.

Its here. It is finally here in India. Apple today launched the iTunes Music Store in India with a very very competitve pricing, that would make other digital music stores in India run for their money. As we know, Apple’s concentration has been increasing consistently in India. Now, quickly, let’s take a look at the pricing.

Music:

  • Single Song: Rs. 12 (Rs. 9 per song for some songs)
  • Album: Rs. 72 (Rs. 50 for some albums)

Movies:

  • High Definition:
    • Rent: Rs. 120
    • Purchase: Rs. 390
  • Standard Definition:
    • Rent: Rs. 80
    • Purchase: Rs. 120

We think this is a huge move by Apple for the Indian market. And now that the iTunes songs are DRM Free and comes with 256Kbps encoding, the songs are of much higher quality and would be easy to purchase. iTunes App Store has the ability to appeal to the customers to make a legal purchase of the apps. And we think the iTunes Music Store would do the same for the customers.

We’ve also received a report that a lot of music labels are in talks with Apple to sell their songs on the iTunes Music Store, and that the process has already started early last week.
