Getting iTunes Error -42408 while trying to access the iTunes App Store? Here’s the solution for the error.

iTunes 11 launched with huge fanfare recently, and as expected, there has been some error messages popping up for the users who experiment with different scenarios like downgrading and upgrading their libraries. And also restoring from backups.

One such error that’s been commonly experienced by the customers is the iTunes error -42408 on iTunes 11 when trying to access iTunes App Store. Here’s a quick fix for this error.

How to fix iTunes error -42408 on iTunes 11?

  1. Open Terminal
  2. Type killall iTunesHelper
  3. This error occurs when a restore does not happen correctly. So let’s now revert back and restore the following files back to the iTunes:
    1. Access this folder: /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/ and restore the following files:
    2. AirTrafficHost.framework, CoreFP.framework, DeviceLink.framework, iTunesAccess.framework, MobileDevice.framework
  4. Now, Reboot the Mac and you should be having the same old experience that you had with iTunes 10.7 on the iTunes App Store.

Hi. Thank you for your post. I’m very sorry to bother you, but what do you mean when you say “restoring the files back to the iTunes”? Copying them in the iTunes folder (in that case, it didn’t work)?

  • Karraspito

Sorry, can anyone explain to me what “restoring” those files to iTunes mean? I’ve copied them to the iTunes folder, but the problem persists. Thanks

I don’t have the private frameworks file, either. I’ve gone through my backups–nothing.

  • restoring = just reinstall once itunes 10.7 or extract/copy the frameworks with pacifist (OSX) from the itunes 10.7 installer to /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/

None of those options are on my computer, so this guide is not helpful. You also did not state how exactly someone is supposed to restore those particular files.

What I mean by options, the file that you suggested does not exist on my computer. I have looked under system and user, that file does not exist on my computer.
