How to Downgrade iTunes 11 to iTunes 10.7?

  1. Use app like AppTrap (Its a system preference script, which when enabled, will help you remove the current iTunes 11 files.)
  2. Make sure to backup your library before proceeding.
  3. Now, with AppTrap enabled, Open your Applications folder
  4. Now, Drag and Drop the iTunes 11 icon in the Applications folder into Trash.
  5. AppTrap will ask you, if it could delete the associated files of iTunes 11. Just confirm it. And you just got rid of iTunes 11.
  6. Now, let’s install iTunes 10.7.
    1. Download iTunes 10.7 for Mac from this link.
    2. Open the DMG file and Double Click the iTunes.pkg file
    3. This will install iTunes 10.7 onto your Mac.

Note: This also works without the use of Applications like AppTrap. This method will just help you install iTunes 10.7 as a fresh install.

🙁 It didn’t work for me. After I dragged the iTunes icon into the trash I got this message: “iTunes” can’t be modified or deleted because it’s required by Mac OS X. I have the latest version of Mountain Lion 10.8.2

  • Doesn’t seem to work. When I drag the icon over the trash, nothing happens. Also, as David, using Mountain Lion 10.8.2

Read carefully. You have to use AppTrap to delete system programs like iTunes. An alternative would be to use “sudo rm -rf /Applications/iTunes.app” in the Terminal.

When I uninstall iTunes 11 and install iTunes 10.7, when first opening it, it forces me to update the software (to Itunes 11 again), or quit. If I quit, it gives an error message (-42408) that won’t disappear unless I update to iTunes 11. Any ideas to solve this?

I have Mountain Lion so I can’t use App Trap. Any substitute?
