Stats: Windows 8 protected its users from 85% of the malware for the past two quarters.

Microsoft’s Windows 8’s Windows Defender has proved something here. According to a series of tests done by BitDefender, Windows 8 is still vulnerable to malware attacks, but then, it fights back to protects against 85% of the malware that exists currently for Windows.

BitDefender, One of the most popular security tool for the Windows, recently revealed the results of the tests which they conducted on the latest Windows 8. The company tried injecting 385 latest malware into the system, and interestingly, only 65 malware managed to infect the Operating System. Here’s what BitDefender says:

“Newly launched Window 8 is prone to infection by some 15 per cent of the 100 malware families most used by cyber criminals this year.”

But then, BitDefender has also concluded saying that ANY Windows PC without a protection would be vulnerable to such attacks:

As a means of protecting a computer from viruses, data theft and other type of malware, Windows Defender is better than nothing. But it’s not a whole lot better. Most of the popular antivirus can do better. The conclusion is clear: Using your PC without a security solution is extremely risky.

But wait, isn’t BitDefender a company that sells security products like Anti-Virus software? Yes they do. There are some important datas missing in the results they’ve published, and this might be a marketing push by the company. But then, Windows’s security stuffs are increasing day by day, as Microsoft is updating the virus definitions now and then. We’ll have to wait for some other company to test these stuff out. We’ve also reached out to Microsoft to acknowledge this. We’ll keep you posted.

If you could see, it is highly necessary to use a security software to protect yourselves from such attacks, whatsoever.
