This simple trick would help you search the iTunes and Mac App Store applications using your web browser on Google.
Apple has neatly optimized its iOS and Mac App Store apps to be indexed by major search engines like Google, Bing and Yahoo!. But then, you might land up in some situation where you’re left with a Windows machine or an Android device without iTunes or iTunes App Store. In that case, you’ll be left out with just the internet connection and a web browser to check for apps that are on the iTunes and Mac App Store.
I landed up in such a situation today at my work, and thought I would put up a tutorial for all those who are in the same situation in which I was in. In this trick, we’re going to be using Google, to customize the search results to obtain the app name that we need. Let’s jump right into the tutorial now.
How to Search for iTunes app store and Mac app store apps using web browser?
- Fire up your web browser and access Google.com
- Now, key in a query in the following format:
<name of the app> site:itunes.apple.com
- Let’s try searching for Angry Birds here. So my query would be:
Angry Birds site:itunes.apple.com
Hope this helps. This is a quick tip using the existing technologies without needing to do any extra stuff. You can also add this query as a custom shortcut to your favorite launcher, like Quick Launch or Alfred.
