In light of Apple’s success with mobile chipsets, the Cupertino based company is weighing a move away from processor giant Intel. Bloomberg reports that Apple is considering shifting to their indigenous processors in OS X platforms.
Intel chips are known to be power-hungry and Apple plans on replacing it with their energy-efficient processors. Also Apple aims at bridging the gap between iOS and OS X devices through hardware parity. Powering Macs with their own processors will also tighten Apple’s control over their own hardware and assist in better software integration.
It should be noted that such a move is not an overnight process but one that requires years. A transition such as this is quite a big deal and Apple will make the move slowly in the coming years. But right now, Apple might think back at taking the decision, since it has already learnt a lesson with iOS 6 Maps application conspiracy.
