Microsoft to replace Windows Live Messenger with Skype

Microsoft is reportedly ditching Windows Live Messenger in favour of Skype. Redmond’s $8.5 billion acquisition has seen tighter Windows integration in the months leading up to this and the decision to retire Live Messenger doesn’t come as a shock.

The Verge has reported that Live Messenger will be dropped off in the coming months with an announcement expected within this week. This would be a huge move by the company since they’ve been supporting the Windows Live Messenger service since their early internet days. But today, this move might be sensible, if Microsoft migrates all the users into Skype, instead of leaving them alone.
