Kim Dotcom is launching his next version of Mega, which he believes would change the world on January 19th next year. There’s also a note that the site will be Powered by legality and protected by law.
Megaupload is probably one of the websites that millions of Internet users used previously, but then, it was taken down due to various legal issues against its founder Kim Dotcom. But then, he has been trying to launch the next big version out on the internet, and it has stirred considerable amount of frenzy on the internet. The founder has revealed that the new site would launch in a new domain name, Mega.co.nz.
This is not all, some of the quotes in the website hints that the people behind this new website will stay safe, and here’s what it says about how users would store the users’ data:
“The new Mega encrypts and decrypts your data transparently in your browser, on the fly. You hold the keys to what you store in the cloud, not us.”
Also, Mega.co.nz will not be able to partner with hosting companies in the US, so here’s what the website says about this:
“Unfortunately, we can’t work with hosting companies based in the United States. Safe harbour for service providers via the Digital Millennium Copyright Act has been undermined by the Department of Justice with its novel criminal prosecution of Megaupload. It is not safe for cloud storage sites or any business allowing user-generated content to be hosted on servers in the United States or on domains like .com / .net. The US government is frequently seizing domains without offering service providers a hearing or due process.”
So all we need to do now is to wait till January 19th for the website to launch. If you are one of the hosting companies outside the US, you could always partner with Mega to bring up their ecosystem.
