40 million Windows 8 licenses sold till date

A month since release, Microsoft has sold over 40 million Windows 8 licenses. According to Microsoft, Windows 8 is outpacing Windows 7 sales by far

The Next Web has inferred that Windows 7 sold nearly 857,142 licenses a day while Windows 8 has sold an impressive 1,250,000 licenses a day. A 45.8% improvement by the looks of it. And although Windows 7 hasn’t been outsold by Windows 8 yet it certainly seems to be on the track of it.

The news was shared by an enthusiastic Tami Reller, the Windows Chief Marketing and Financial Officer, at the Credit Suisse 2012 Annual Technology Conference.

The journey is just beginning, but I am pleased to announce today that we have sold 40 million Windows 8 licenses so far.

Windows 8 PC sales have been rather disappointing but the OS sales seem to be doing okay. Microsoft has not revealed any details about Windows 8 RT or the Surface RT. It should also be noted that the first month of sales is usually higher than the second, although with the holiday season coming things could turn out in Microsoft’s favour.
