A billion users, 1.3 trillions likes and 140.3 billion friend connections: Facebook is a grand success.

So this was the big news that Mark Zukerberg teased earlier this week. The company now crossed the billion active users milestone, making it the first ever social network to have such a huge user base. The company’s first Developer and CEO, Mark Zukerberg revealed this news today in an open letter:

“This morning, there are more than one billion people using Facebook actively each month.

If you’re reading this: thank you for giving me and my little team the honor of serving you.

Helping a billion people connect is amazing, humbling and by far the thing I am most proud of in my life.

I am committed to working every day to make Facebook better for you, and hopefully together one day we will be able to connect the rest of the world too.”

Launched February 4, 2004, the world’s favorite social network has amassed 1 billion active users. Along with the announcement Facebook also released a very interesting document. Some astonishing details include 1.13 trillion likes, 140.3 billion friend connections and 219 billion photos uploaded so far.
