‘Data Portal India’ launched. Wishes to increase transparency about Govt. functioning

The Indian Government has launched a new initiative called “Data Portal India”, which enabled the Government officials to publish information that are intended for the public, enabling transparency on how the Government operated internally. This is a joint Initiative by the Indian and the US Government.

Transparency has always been lacking with the Indian Government, but with Data Portal India, the Government seems to enable transparency by letting the Ministers and other Government officials to publish their data that are collected for the public, thus giving access to the users who would require those information in the future. The website has launched in Beta, and some of the functions seems to work, but some does not. The portal can be accessed from data.gov.in, which currently welcomes you with a message which reads:

“Data Portal India is developed to provide single-point-access to datasets published by various Ministries/Departments of Government of India as per the NDSAP  policy. This Beta Launch is to enable you to browse and experience its functionality and usability and let us know your views and feedback on this initiative. You can also suggest the kind of datasets you would like to see on this Portal for further consumption.”

I think this is a pretty good initiative by the Govt. Of India, to increase the transparency between the Govt. and the citizens of the country. Also, the new initiative is being supported by the United States Govt. too. The portal also has communities letting users discuss their views and suggestions about the happenings.

Now that the portal has been launched, its with the Ministers to share their work that’s intended for the public. What do you think they’d do?
