Google has finally agreed to pay a penalty of $22.5 million to FTC for ignoring the users’ settings on iOS’s Mobile Safari and storing cookies by bypassing the browser!
It was a few months back that Google was taken to the court room for allegedly ignoring the users’ settings to be deleted from iOS’ Mobile Safari. But now, the case has come to an end. The issue that came up with Google was that it violated an important policy put up by FTC for placing cookies on the device by bypassing the default browser settings. And now, this has costed Google a hefty amount that they’ve paid to anyone before.
Talking about this case, FTC’s Chairman, Mr. Jon Leibowitz said:
“The record setting penalty in this matter sends a clear message to all companies under an FTC privacy order,”
And he went on to add:
“No matter how big or small, all companies must abode by FTC orders against them and keep their privacy promise to consumers, or they will end up paying many times what it would have cost to comply in the first place.”
While this has awakened all those who have been doing this intentionally, the case has caused a huge privacy concern on Google. This came out since the company bypassed the browser settings in iOS. But we’re still not sure what’s happening with Android devices.
