Electronic Arts has filed a lawsuit against the world’s leading social game developer, Zynga for Copyright breach over “The Sims Social”, as Zynga’s game “The Ville” seems to be an exact match. Maxis is the company which created “The Sims Social” and they say that every appearance of game has been copied including animations, motions and actions. Maxis was launched in 1987 and they worked to push in SimCity to computers till then. Later, it was acquired by EA and then evolved SimCity Series, Spore, etc.
“The Sims Social” was launched in August 2011 introducing Sims to facebook which gained millions of regular users was a hit. “The Ville” by Zynga was launched in June 2012 and is having 42,100,000 monthly users. Now, “The Ville” being claimed as a copy of The Sims Social is quiet controversial.
Lucy Bradshaw, General Manager of Maxis call it as blatant mimicry and stated, “I’m certain there will be a response. Some will say The Ville simply iterates; some will tell us to get over it and move on. We are confident in our position, and that we will prevail. But even if we do not, we will have made a point. As a longstanding game developer, I know what it feels like to pour your heart and soul into creating something unique and special for your fans to enjoy. Today, we hope to be taking a stand that helps the industry protect the value of original creative works and those that work tirelessly to create them.”
Well, lawsuits for the internet copy cats now, huh?
