Dropbox has officially confirmed that they are working on a two-step authentication to defend itself from the hackers, who have increased their attack on the website recently!
Dropbox has been my favorite online file storage and syncing application for years together now, and I literally can’t live without using this little service. The company recently had a security breach, which was used by the hackers to send out spam emails to man of its users across the world.
The hackers gained access to one of the company’s employee, who had access to the users’ email IDs, and the account was used to fetch all the emails of the users who have been using the service. And then, the hackers started sending out spam emails to the users. The company has also put up an official blogpost detailing this issue, but there’s no information about any password breach.
Moreover, Dropbox has also revealed that they are working on a two-factor authentication method, that would be optional. The two-factor authentication would require the users to login with their regular passwords, as well as with the temporary code that would be sent to their mobile device. Moreover, Dropbox has also advised its users to use different passwords for different services, since a this would lower the risk of all their accounts getting hacked.
We are lucky that only a very few accounts were accessed by the hackers this time. But the new two-factor authentication would undoubtedly help the users stay secure.
