Gaikai is a cloud based gaming service that has been offering some excellent services that offer cloud-streaming of games onto different kinds of devices. And today, Sony has officially acquired the company for a hefty $380 from their pocket, with which the company is expected to expand its presence in online game streaming services.
Sony Computer Entertainment, which is responsible for manufacturing gaming and other entertainment devices, has now bought Gaikai, a cloud-based game streaming company. The company has already been providing high speed and interactive cloud streaming services to its customers, and now, they’d probably be taking another wing of the Sony’s entertainment division.
According to Sony Computer Entertainment’s Andrew House, who is the President and the Group CEO, the new acquisition will bring some change, by combining the technology and the resources that Gaikai has been using all along to bring extensive gaming platform to Sony Computer Entertainment. Talking more about this acquisition, he added:
“SCE will deliver a world-class cloud-streaming service that allows users to instantly enjoy a broad array of content ranging from immersive core games with rich graphics to casual content anytime, anywhere on a variety of internet-connected devices.”
Gaikai has been providing an extensive service, in the lines of OnLive, right from 2008. The company is originally based out of California. The new acquisition would probably expand the gaming experience from PlayStation and Sony might bring it to other entertainment devices like Digital TVs and much more.
Gaikai’s CEO, David Perry also seems to be happy about this new acquisition:
“SCE has built an incredible brand with PlayStation and has earned the respect of countless millions of gamers worldwide. We’re honored to be able to help SCE rapidly harness the power of the interactive cloud and to continue to grow their ecosystem, to empower developers with new capabilities, to dramatically improve the reach of exciting content and to bring breathtaking new experiences to users worldwide.”
