RapidShare has launched its new cloud storage service, RapidDrive, which lets you sync and store files on the cloud, posting direct competition to Dropbox and other cloud storage services.
RapidShare has been popular for sharing large files all these days, but now, the company is moving ahead with their new service, which they’re calling it RapidDrive. RapidDrive is their new Cloud storage service that comes with some of the major features that its competitors offer, like cloud file sync, a dedicated desktop client and other such features. Currently, the service is available only for the RapidShare users and carries a Beta tag to itself.
Dropbox and SugarSync has been very successful in taking cloud storage to the masses, and there are some more services that offer such top notch cloud storage services. It was very recently that Google stepped into the cloud storage service, with Google Drive, which was mainly a replacement for Google Docs, and the services’ client is available for both mobile devices and desktops. But how different would RapidShare be to convince the users to move to its service is still unclear. Talking about this new service, RapidShare’s CEO, Alexandra Zwingli says:
“With RapidDrive, we are providing a tool that creates an even closer link between cloud storage and the PC environment, which makes it easier to manage files, RapidDrive is an essential means of simplifying work processes, especially for customers who are regular users of RapidShare at work.”
Well, this is pretty exciting though. But at the moment, the company is offering a native Windows Client, and they would probably get into the smartphone and Mac market soon with RapidDrive clients. Here’s the official Press Release of the new cloud storage service, RapidDrive:
