Oblong develops ‘Minority Report’ movie UI. Brings it to the real world!

Oblong Corporation has developed the Minority Report UI for the real world, and the company strongly believes that multi-touch, multi-user interface is the future of UI.

The UI demoed in the 2002 hit movie, Minority Report has always been a fantasy. And many have also tried to develop such UI, but nothing has hit the masses yet. But now, looks like things have changed. Oblong Corp, has developed a UI that mimics and works just like how the Minority Report UI worked in the movie. The picture you see above is an employee demoing the UI, in which he moves his hands to navigate through the map on a computer screen.

Oblong is a Los Angeles based company, and talking about this new breakthrough in the UI development, the company’s CEO, Mr. Kwin Kramer says:

“We think the future of computing is multiuser, multiscreen, multidevice. This system helps with big workflow problems.”

While this looks exciting, the company is calling it a g-speak ‘spacial’ operating system, that’s purely based on the spacial movements of the hands and its gestures. The company also strongly believes that this would solve people’s main problem of handling a large amount of data on their own, bringing in an improved workflow across their data. “We have demo versions of this kind of software which show exactly the ‘Minority Report’ user experience, allowing you to move back and forth in time, or to zoom in to look at details,” added the company’s CEO.

The UI and the OS is not Kinect based, just like how other systems work. But this sensor system is a lot more complicated than the current Kinect that’s available in the market! But the availability of this kind of the UI from the company is not yet available!

I liked the line the Company’s CEO said at last:

“I think most people look at those ‘Minority Report’ interfaces and imagine how they could use that flexible system in their own office or designs studio,”

“This isn’t science fiction! This is real!”
