Quick fix to new iPad unable to access WiFi on iOS6 Beta! [How-To]

The new iPad running on iOS6 has been facing some serious issues with WiFi Connectivity.

Apple released the Developer Beta for the next major version of the iOS, the iOS6. The new OS comes with loads of new features and many of the developers (including me) have installed the beta version of iOS6 and now, looks like all those who installed it on the new iPad now have problems with accessing the WiFi network.

The new iPad running iOS6 beta connects to the WiFi without any issue, but then, it does not access it whatsoever we do! Trying to open up Safari or App Store or whatever app in that case, does not allow the user to access the internet via WiFi network. This is a very huge bug that’s affecting the developers from exploring the new iPad running on iOS6.

But temporarily, to access internet via the new iPad running on iOS6, I’ve been using two methods.

  1. Use your iPhone to tether the internet via Bluetooth and access it with the iPad
  2. Tether (Share) your WiFi network via Bluetooth on your Mac and connect it to the iPad.

Both these ways work. But still, it would be really good if Apple actually issues the Fix for this right away. I’m sure the Apple iOS team has shipped with the restriction they usually have at Apple, which is restricting the iOS device to access the internet only in Apple Network.

I’ll keep you posted about the progress pretty soon!

@ImKarthikK @sstaver @SYNbit WiFi on my #iOS6 iPad3 does work with WiFi tethering on my Android… Are you using Cisco WiFi?

    • ImKarthikK

@daepunt Nope! Its a regular home WiFi. No Cisco thingy! 🙁

      • daepunt

@ImKarthikK And no Linksys? I’m telling you: that Android has saved my life many times. You don’t happen to have one for a test, right?

        • ImKarthikK

@daepunt Yep! But tethering via Bluetooth from an iPhone!

        • daepunt

@ImKarthikK And what if you turn on WiFi tethering on your iPhone? Will your iPad connect to it and work?

        • ImKarthikK

@daepunt I own a 3GS. So only Bluetooth tethering! Will have to test it out with my friends’ WiFi tomorrow!

        • daepunt

@ImKarthikK Please keep me posted. I’m convinced I’m right with this. It is a WiFi bug, but not #all WiFi :-S

        • ImKarthikK

          @daepunt Yeah~ 🙁

        • daepunt

@ImKarthikK Just an idea: What WiFi speed are you running at home? 802.11n? Can you downgrade it to 802.11g? Or even slower?

@daepunt @ImKarthikK @SYNbit Cisco/linksys, yeah. I did end up using Bluetooth this morning, and it’s been working ‘ok’.

      • daepunt

@sstaver @imkarthikk @synbit Can you tweak the WiFi speed down at your router? What happens then?

        • ImKarthikK

          @daepunt @sstaver @SYNbit Yep! I’ll do that in a while! 🙂

@ImKarthikK @viticci // thanks and still waiting for the fix….cheers

  • kosmopolska

@fjellander Det upplevde inte jag. Hoppas det funkar hemma i Kalmar.

    • fjellander

@kosmopolska Det verkar bara vara nya iPad (ipad 3) som är drabbad.

      • kosmopolska

@fjellander Jag har en iPad 3. Har du med 3G?

        • fjellander

          @kosmopolska Nej, wifi-modellen.

        • kosmopolska

@fjellander Okej, jag har 3G på min, så det kanske är skillnad på ipsw-erna.

    • fjellander

@kosmopolska Men jag kan köra internetdelning från datorn, så jag klarar mig. Förhoppningsvis fixas det snart.

      • kosmopolska

@fjellander Det går ju få in iOS 5 igen om man vill.

        • fjellander

I think I know a fix.. But I ain’t sure it will help for you all.
I changed my WLAN channel to 11, as my MacBook Pro did that too when it was tethering. Now I had internet (from my Wi-Fi) on my iPhone. I changed it back to my original channel 9 and it’s now still working. I guess you guys will need to mess a bit with your WLAN channel, good luck!

    Fixed!!

Just enable WMM on your router settings. 🙂

@esojesus Great! Works for me! (with AVM FritzBox)

Great article, but sadly it didn’t fix my problem with the poor wifi reception. I have spent a lot of time on google, looking for a solution to this. In the end though, I found a couple of reviews of Pong Research ‘s cases, that convinced me to give it a try. This case is built with an antenna in between layers of the back cover, which redirects and boosts the power of the signal and increases the range of the wifi antenna on the iPad. After getting one, I couldn’t be happier with my new toy!

  • Wow! Thanks for this post! I helped me a lot! I am having this same exact problem. So it’s really a pleasure that you have posted this.

  • Finally it works! Thanks for sharing your settings here.

  • They just released the iOS 6 recently, and it still has many problems. One of them is the map apps which is totally screwed up.
