Mozilla demoes WebAPI. Can access devices’ hardware sensors to display results!

Mozilla has showed off a new WebAPI, which is capable of accessing the hardware sensors of a mobile device right from the web. The new API shows the power of HTML5 and the power of Boot to Gecko, which is scheduled to come out later this year. But now, a new project called WebAPI has been kicked off by Mozilla, which would help the developers to access the hardware sensors of the mobile device with ease.

The demo video that came out from a developer shows how the WebAPI access the battery level, and other information from the devices’ actual hardware sensors (The WebAPI is running on a HTC device). This opens up a whole new space for some amazing stuffs that a developer can do with these devices. We already spoke to Mr. Andreas Gal of Mozilla about the upcoming Boot to Gecko and the company seems to be really excited about this project.

We will try to get some more videos of the WebAPI in the coming weeks and also, how let you know about how Mozilla would incorporate this into their Boot to Gecko project. The source code for the project is already available here. So if you are a developer looking to access the hardware sensors of a device from the web, this is your cup of tea. Go get em’.
