Microsoft acquires Yammer, an Enterprise Social Network for a hefty $1.2 billion!

Yammer, an Enterprise social network has sold itself to Microsoft today for a hefty, $1.2 billion despite the fact that many analysts quiz about the money invested in the new acquisition.

If you are one of those working in a Fortune 500 company, you’d have probably known this social network, which runs in almost all these companies. Yammer, an enterprise social network has now been acquired by Microsoft for $1.2 billion. The rumor was already on air about this news, but today, its official. And from now on, Microsoft’s Office suites would be much powerful than ever before with this acquisition. Let’s now take a very quick look at this new acquisition.

What’s Microsoft planning to do with Yammer?

Looks like Microsoft has got a worthy investment. But many have been wondering what would Microsoft exactly use Yammer for in their Office Suite. Talking about this news, Microsoft has said that Yammer would now be a part of the Microsoft Office division, and the entire team of Yammer, would still report to the enterprise social network’s CEO, David Sacks. As noted earlier, this would strengthen Microsoft’s Office Suites and would conquer much larger office adoption among various companies, since Yammer is used at over 85% of the Fortune 500 companies in the world.

Will Yammer be shut down?

Nope. Microsoft has also confirmed that Yammer will still operate as normal. And the penetration into office suite will happen slowly and the development of Yammer will continue as usual. Also, there would be no change in the location from which the Yammer team works!

This is the second major acquisition that Microsoft has made in the recent times, after Skype. And the acquisition is still in progress and the company did not give any timeline about when the acquisition would complete!
