Growl team has confirmed that they would be still living along with Mountain Lion’s Notification Center and the next update will make the app behave just like a native app for the Notification Center!
Growl is one of the most popular Notification Application that exists for a very long time, bringing Notifications to desktop computers running Mac OS X. But ever since the launch of the Mac App Store, the developers decided to make a paid clone of the open source project to keep the development intact and also to make a living, which was fare enough. But now, with the launch of Mac OS X Mountain Lion, the Notification Center came into picture, and this left the future of Growl a big question mark.
In a recent posterous post, Growl developer, Chris Forsythe has confirmed that the app would get updated to support the Notification Center and would behave as a native application, using the Notification Center API. Implementing this would route all the incoming Notification requests to Growl into the Notification Center, just like how Hiss for Mountain Lion works.
Chris also revealed some information about the new update:
“For Growl 2 we’re simply going to add a Notification Center action display as well. This is going to make it easy for anyone who wants to see notifications in Growl, and also in Notification Center.”
This update will also have some UI improvements to the app, and the update is expected to roll out as soon as the Mountain Lion hits the App Store.
