The day has finally come. There’s one more addition to the History of the Internet today, its the public launch of the IPv6, the next generation of IP addresses for the masses. Thanks to Google and many other online companies for testing the new version of the Internet Protocol, and bringing it to the public as promised.
The growth of the Internet Citizens have been exponential ever since the Internet was launched, and now, the growth has led us to shortage of IP addresses. But this led to just another innovation, the IPv6. The IPv6 is an advancement to the existing Internet Protocol system, that has just 32-bit of allocation space. But the new IPv6 has got 128-bit addresses, which can accomodate trillions of unique IPs across the globe.
All these developments are made by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), and I think we need to owe them a big thanks for bringing this technology to the public. So, what does this lead to? Well, all the existing ISPs, and other major websites that make use of the IPv4 protocol will have to migrate and support to the new IPv6 Standards.
The corporates are going to be having their own IPs from now on, which would be interesting to see! And once again, Welcome IPv6, we’ve got a lot to do with you!
