Asphalt is one of the most popular racing game on the planet for the iOS devices, and the game is coming out from the famous company, Gameloft . The gaming company has now released a cool new version of Asphalt, with the name, Asphalt 7 – Heat, setting the expectations of the gamers much more than what they’d been thinking of. While Asphalt 6 – Adrenaline was mind-blowing, the new release from the franchise has wowed the users once again! Now, let’s take a deep look at this new game, that hit the app store last week.
First Impressions:
Unlike the previous the new Asphalt Heat takes you onto the real-world locations, and you get to drive like crazy in the streets of London, Shanghai, Hawaii and many more locations. The game features 15 leagues and has over 150 races to complete. I’m about to reach 78 races now. The races have been batched in 9, and each race has different game types like normal race, time trials, knockout races, elimination and also a drift race.
I loved playing in places like London and Hawaii, where the graphics were amazing. Compared to the Asphalt 6, the new version is way too shiny and also, looks pretty gorgeous with a lot of eye candy for the gamers. The cities adhered to their ‘known for’ factors like for New York has lots of lights, while Tokyo was full of neon lights with Shopping malls all over. But one thing I noticed was that the buildings were not looking amazing, but they were rendered just in 2D with not so clear backgrounds.
Talking about the vehicles, I got to drive Audi, Pagani, Land Rover, Evoque, Callidav and Tesla. The kinetics that were involved when the vehicles are in track was good until I hit the mud-roads and sometimes when on the ice roads. The smoke that other vehicles produced was not clear, and it was looking like pieces of paper coming out of the cars, which was of low quality.
Besides this, there were no real-time crash damages on the car, so all the time you crash on a vehicle, you can resume with the car which you chose from the Garage before the game play. But the amount of detail that has gone into these cars were amazing, and the handling differed greatly from one car to another.
It was a complete Joy Ride:
The entire game was a complete joy ride and it was so much to play all along. Quick Play has got a new slot machine like feature, that lets you choose different places, with different kinds of game plays. And you can also choose between the difficulty levels in this slot machine. While the Quick Play looks interesting, the Career gameplay, which is pretty exciting. The Career provides a variety of challenges, concentrating on a different game plays all over the career race.
The Reps are earned depending of a variety of factors like how well you play with the car, how close you get to the traffic, and also, the number of times you crash the car, etc., which is interesting. Other than the Reps, unlocking the carts depends on the amount of Stars you earn and also, the new cars get unveiled as you win the Race.
But from the beginning to the end, the game keeps you intact, and the sounds produced by the cars would make you go longer with the game.
Customizations:
The game offers a lot of customization options for each car that’s available on the garage. You can paint it, change the decals, upgrade the nitro, acceleration, steering, armor, change the window tint, and also tweak the decals. You can also buy sponsors for your cars before you start off with the race for $5000 (literally on the game).
Controls:
The Asphalt 7- Heat takes inputs from steer wheels (using bluetooth) and also, from the Accelerometer built into the iPad or iPhone. But the game also gives some more options for the accelerometer controlled steering. You can choose between tap based steering, or manual gas and breaking controls or, you could also choose from other types of inputs that are available in the Controls menu under Settings.
While on Track:
There are some exciting add-ons when you are on the track, racing. You could pick up booster packs for money, nitro and also speed boost points are also present all over the track. Increasing the nitrous’ would put you into adrenaline mode, and once you are into the Adrenaline more, which comes with just a tap, you could move fast, and wreck the cars. You can also tap the nitro button three times for get moving fast when the bar is full.
But when you are done with the race, you’ll get bugged with a lot of statistics that would keep asking you to share it with your Facebook friends. I found it annoying since this happens at the end of every single race in the game. Wish Gameloft had reduced nagging people with such kind of sharing stuff and also, from asking the users to rate the game on App Store.
Overall Graphics:
The Asphalt 7 – Heat comes with Retina optimized graphics for the iPod, iPad and iPhone. The animations are pretty good, but does not come close to Real Racing 2, which brings real life situations onto the iPad. The details int he gameplay like the fireworks when entering London, lens glare, motion blur are all fine, but I though it would have been better.
Hitting the Finish Line:
Overall, the game meets the expectations of a racing enthusiast on iOS devices. The game consumes over a GB of space on your iDevice, but it makes it worthy to have it on the iPad or iPhone. With no limitations for gaining special booster packs all over the game, this game looks like fantasy but still, I had so much fun playing it.
The game comes for $4.99 and is available on the App Store for download. The game also features in-app purchases for booster packs, earning stars and other upgrades within the game. But I felt that it was unnecessary to have it in a game like Asphalt, and also felt that its spoiling the truth of the game. If there’s one thing I would suggest for Gameloft, it would be to remove the sharing feature all over the game, it annoys me every time I play it.
But on the other hand, if you are on a summer holiday, and have been obsessively gaming on your iOS device, then go ahead a get a copy of Asphalt for yourself and enjoy the game along with the amazing sounds.
Here’s the entire game gallery for you! Have fun!
