Microsoft has revealed that the company would be restricting their Windows Phone software to some majoe phone makers instead of the local Indian OEMs to offer the quality that Apple offers to its customers.
Indian mobile market has been growing so fast and seem to be never stopping. As the market grew many handset makers stepped into the country, no matter what quality of the product they offered. And now, this might be a boon on one side, but looks like Microsoft id worried on the other site.
In a recent announcement, Microsoft expressed its worry about their Windows Phone OS, being used in the hands of local OEMs who offer bad quality software and device. Being based out of India, we have seen low quality handsets like Lava, Karbonn, Micromax and Spice, which has been offering some really low cost Android mobile devices which Google never seemed to have a problem with. And besides this, these devices are being endorsed by some big Bollywood stars across the country during various events that are taking place in India. Whatever, the quality is low.
Mr. Bhaskar Pramanik, Chairman, Microsoft India recently said in a press conference in Kolkata that the compan is worried about the growth of low quality handsets in the country and Microsoft has decided to step aside these devices to maintain Apple quality user experience. Here’s the statement he made during the press conference.
“The Windows Phone requires a specification for the user experience. We want to give the same kind of experience that Apple has. This limits the number of manufacturers who can build a product around that. I think till they can design and build a product with that level of specification, yes it is a challenge for them.”
This marks the new beginning for the Indian market in our view. This would have two effects. One, the quality of the low cost manufacturers would improve to get the Windows Phone devices onboard. Two, Windows Phone devices would have a reduced mobile user base in India in this regard. It is really nice to see that Microsoft is coming forward to maintain their user experience across the globe in the same way.
No matter what, India would still have huge Windows Phone handset makers like Nokia, HTC, Samsung and others, who have been successful across the globe!
