Microsoft has announced that they are pushing forward the closure date of the Windows Phone Marketplace from May 9th to May 17th!
We reported earlier that the Windows Mobile 6.x users would be forbidden from using the Windows Mobile Marketplace from May 9th this year. But looks like the deadline has had a push for a few days. The date is now May 17th instead of May 9th. Microsoft has confirmed this news in their notice page today that the Windows Mobile Marketplace for Windows Mobile 6.x users would be extended for a few days now.
So, from May 19th, users will not be able to download or update any applications from their Marketplace. If you are relying on the apps from Windows Mobile Marketplace, then the users would have to download or update any application from the Marketplace before May 19th.
But, if you still want to get the apps you previously downloaded from the marketplace, then you’d want to call up the developers and get the apps from them and then install it on the device. The company is probably pulling the plugs off the service due to the number of users using the store. I think its a smart move, and now that users are moving towards faster and more powerful devices, this move is pretty good. It would at least push those users to upgrade to newer devices.
