Grooveshark blocked from Facebook for Copyright concerns

Grooveshark has been officially been banned from the largest social network on the planet, Facebook, concerning copyright concerns.

There’s been complaints lately that Grooveshark users were not able to login with their Facebook credentials, and also the music streaming service’s page has been removed from Facebook lately. This is because of the copyright complaint that Facebook received from some music labels.

Acting almost immediately, Facebook revoked all the Facebook logins to the music service and this came into effect from May 1st. Grooveshark acknowledged this by posting a blog about users facing errors while logging in into the streaming service with Facebook credentials, and promised to make a quick fix for these problems. But looks like its already late for them to do so. Facebook has now banned the service from accessing their APIs and other Open Graph protocols.

Grooveshark has over 15 million songs in its library with over 30 million user base across the world. This isn’t new to this music service. And Grooveshark has been battling their on-demand music service against copyright infringement. Major labels like EMI, Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment and Warner Music Group have been asking Grooveshark for copyright infringement.

Confirming the new, Grooveshark posted a blog explaining the situation about Facebook removing their access to their protocols:

“We have confirmed that the Grooveshark Page and App outage on Facebook was due to a copyright takedown request issued by a foreign entity,”

But still, the service has said that they are in talks with Facebook to resolve this issue. We just need to wait and see what would happen to this battle!
