Evernote acquires Penultimate app for the iPad. Aims to improve its Handwriting recognition capabilities!

Penultimate, an app for the iPad that tops the charts on the App Store for handwriting recognition, has been acquired by Evernote. The new acquisition aims to bring the Penultimate app for more platforms and also to improve the handwriting recognition capabilities of the Evernote app.

Evernote has been expanding its horizon lately! The company started off as a simple application that would let you take notes, and carry it everywhere by seamless syncing capabilities. And today, it has grown to the extent of acquiring companies that make beautiful and intelligent apps. One such acquisition is the Penultimate app for the iPad, which is made by a company called Cocoa Box Design. Evernote has acquired this after it was funded a whooping $70 million last week.

The acquisition aims at bringing the Penultimate app for the iPad to much more newer mobile platform and also to bring improvements to the Evernote’s handwriting capabilities, using the technology behind Penultimate. Evernote already has all these capabilities of recognizing users’ handwriting. But with this acquisition we can expect something new and improved.
