Will your Windows Phone get the next major update? Probably not!

There’s been a lot of speculation about the next major update from Microsoft, for their Windows Phones lately and now, we probably have the answer. The Apollo, is the name that Microsoft calls for their next major update for the Windows Phone 8, and this is expected to come out later this year. When asked Microsoft, the company is not really ready to commit that they would bring the Apollo to all the existing Windows Phone devices. But interestingly, Nuno Silva, a developer evangelist at Microsoft has recently revealed that all the current Windows Phone devices would get this update, even the second-generation of Windows Phone devices (The devices which you get now).

The information was revealed in a video interview conducted by a technology news site called Zwame (Portugese), which was later pulled from the website, but people over at other website got a chance to grab some parts of the interview and posted an excerpt of the interview. Nuno Silva was certain that the next big update would be available for all the devices, but when Microsoft was questioned on the same, it was not willing to comment on it:

Q: In terms of devices, who today have one is it expectable that…

A: What Microsoft said/stated and what I’m allowed to tell you is that all actual devices will get upgrade to the next major version of Windows Phone (we´re talking about Apollo)

Q: When you say actual devices. Are all that came out to market?

A: Are all that came out. Since the first generation that were bought. The LGs and SAMSUNGs.. OMNIA 7 which were the first devices with Windows Phone reaching the market.

Some of the editors reached out to Microsoft for a comment, but the company never got back on this issue. But Microsoft revealed some information about this:

We have stated publicly that all apps in our Marketplace today will run on the next version of Windows Phone. Beyond that, we have nothing to share about future releases.

But this doesn’t mean that the information revealed by Nuno was wrong, but the company says that Microsoft did not officially announce this information to ANY of its spokesperson. But it clearly shows that Microsoft is under a confusion on what, when and how they could reveal this information to the public. All we could do now is to just wait and watch what the company has to say about this update. We are expecting Microsoft to shed more light on this in the coming weeks!
