In a recent Annual Development Report from Linux Foundation, Microsoft has been listed as one of the contributors for the Linux’s Kernel. The Linux Foundation also made a special note of the Fact that Microsoft, who earlier criticized Linux as a Cancer, which expands itself infecting its nearby PCs, has contributed to the Kernel Development this year.
The report provided by the Linux Foundation criticized the point that Steve Ballmer, CEO of Microsoft, made in 2001 about Linux.:
Ranking at number 17, the company that once called Linux a “cancer,” today is working within the collaborative development model to support its virtualization efforts and its customers. Because Linux has reached a state of ubiquity, in which both the enterprise and mobile computing markets are relying on the operating system, Microsoft is clearly working to adapt.
This is not the first time Microsoft has supported Open Source Projects, but they have already contributed to OpenStreetMaps earlier.
