Visa announces payWave: A NFC enabled payment system for Smartphones!

We have been hearing so many things about the NFC payments and now this gets a little more interesting, as the technology sees a real world use for payments. Visa has announced that the company has partnered with Vodafone in the US to bring Visa payWave to NFC enabled smartphones. With this new way of payments, the users will be able to pay their bills by just tapping or waving their phones to the NFC receivers.

Visa will enable the Visa prepaid accounts available to the Vodafone’s stored value accounts to make purchases using Visa’s payWave. To prevent fraud and to safeguard the customers from making large purchases out of mistake, Visa payWave would ask you for a PIN code if there’s any purchase more than 15GBP. The payWave will be launching this spring to all the Vodafone markets.

Now that this has taken flight, and it did not take too long to see a really valuable purpose of NFC, we need to wait until some major merchants adopt this technology at their stores. But if this clicks, we can forget those long queues to bill products and just wave our smartphone to make payments.
