Two of the US Senators, Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) have requested the Attorney General to investigate on the Employers who are asking for the users’ Facebook credentials. Both the senators think that these activities violate the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act (CFAA) and Stored Communications Act (SCA), which protects the users on the online communities for their private information and other credentials. The senators are also drafting a bill to avoid such activities where Employers ask for the users’ Facebook credentials and get exposed to their personal information.
This comes right after the Senators came to know about these activities and they are now standing by Facebook to protect the users from others gaining private information, forcefully, to get a job. Here’s what Senator Schumer says:
In an age where more and more of our personal information — and our private social interactions — are online, it is vital that all individuals be allowed to determine for themselves what personal information they want to make public and protect personal information from their would-be employers. This is especially important during the job-seeking process, when all the power is on one side of the fence
