Specify 1080p resolution as default for all the videos on iTunes.

Here’s how to set 1080p as the default resolution for all the video playbacks on iTunes 10.6 in just a few steps. By default, the resolution is set to 720p on the iTunes.

iTunes 10.6 came along with iOS 5.1 after Apple unveiled the new iPad on March 7th. With that, the iTunes added capability of playing videos at 1080p resolution and the quality was mind-blowing. But unfortunately, this does not come enabled by default. But remember that setting 1080p resolution would consume a lot of space, almost double than the 720p.

Here are the steps to enable 1080p resolution on the new iTunes 10.6:

  1. Open iTunes and pull down the iTunes menu to “Preferences”
  2. Click on the “Store” tab
  3. Click the submenu next to “When downloading high definition videos, prefer:” and set to “1080p”
  4. Close out of iTunes Preferences
