Microsoft has planned to discontinue the Windows Mobile 6.x Marketplace on May 9th. The company has started sending out email notices to both the developers and the users of Windows Mobile 6.x Marketplace. From May 9th, the users will not be able to download or browse apps from the Marketplace.
Microsoft is discontinuing the 6.x Marketplace to concentrate on the Windows Phone 7 Marketplace. They are now encouraging the users to update their apps before the deadline that Microsoft has set. With Microsoft’s next huge release, Apollo set to release later this year, Microsoft has started streamlining their mobile OS lines now. And now that Microsoft has started pushing users (Literally) to upgrade to latest version of Windows Phone 7, we might not be surprised to see the ability of Windows Phone 7 users to upgrade to Windows Phone 8, when it rolls out.
