India is about to get its first major 4G service from AirTel, starting March 20th in Kolkata. AirTel has reportedly purchased the 4G spectrum for Rs. 3,314.36 crores for regions that include Karnataka, Maharashtra, Punjab and Kolkata. The service would roll out first in Kolkata and would be extended to other regions in the coming months. The service will be brought to you by Nokia Siemens Network via AirTel across the country.
This would just be the start that many 4G enabled handset makers have been waiting for. Right now, there aren’t many 4G mobile devices available in the Indian market. But with this, Samsung is expected to bring the first 4G mobile first. There has been photos of devices running 4G network of AirTel earlier, but now, the news is pretty much confirmed.
We contacted AirTel and we were able to confirm this news. But there was no specific date they were willing to reveal for the launch. There’s been a lot of expectation for this service across the country. We are in sync with AirTel and we will have this space updated as we hear from India’s largest mobile service provider.
