Google switches the lights off at Server Farms to hide the gears from competitors!

Here’s something interesting Google is doing to hide its server farms from its competitors. Google has reportedly turned the lights off the server farms to hide its gear from its competitors. A newly published story by Wires, which interview Chris Sharp, GM of Content and Cloud Data Center reveals that they have removed the light bulbs from the server farms years back to protect itself from the competitors. The farm does not belong to Google itself, but Google has leased the space to run this server farm.

Here’s the excerpt from the interview with Chris Sharp:

About two years ago, Chris Sharp says, Google unscrewed all the light bulbs inside the hardware cages it occupied at that Equinix data center. “They had us turn off all overhead lights too, and their guys put on those helmets with lights you see miners wear,” he tells Wired. “Presumably, they were bringing up custom-built gear they didn’t want anyone else to see.”

This is something interesting that Google has done to protect its valuable assets from its competitors. You can read the full interview here.
