Google pays $1 billion to Apple every year to retain itself as the default search in Mobile Safari!

Ever wondered how much Google pays to Apple every year to stay as the default search option in Mobile Safari? Well, looks like the world’s largest search engine is paying more than what we expected. Google has been paying $1 billion to Apple in exchange of staying as the default search engine in Mobile Safari.

After iOS 5, the users were allowed to choose between Google, Yahoo and Bing as their default Search Engine for Mobile Safari. But I don’t think many users ever thought of changing it since Google came by default.

This number was revealed by Shachter and believes that Google gets around $1.3 billion in revenue by staying as the default search engine on the iOS devices. This is probably a win-win for both Apple and Google, but then, Google gets stronger as the numbers increase, for the amount of data the company collects from the users. What do you say? Is this good or bad? I go neutral on this discussion!
