Facebook takes shield to protects its users from companies asking for users’ Facebook Credentials

Recently, a lot of companies have been asking for the employees’ Facebook credentials and gain inappropriate access to checkout private information.

Facebook has been getting a lot of new reports that employers are trying to access user accounts in the U.S., which Facebook considers as a bad practice. “The most alarming of these practices is the reported incidences of employers asking prospective or actual employees to reveal their passwords” said Erin Egan, Facebook’s Chief Privacy Officer. Egan also said that the users should not be forced to reveal their passwords to gain access to private information to get a job. And this violated the practices that undermine the privacy expectations and the security of users and their friends in their accounts. And Egan also added that the company would step forward to take legal action against the employers who force their users’ to reveal passwords.

Facebook has also changes its Statement of Rights and Responsibilities to make sure that their users’ are double safe on the social network. Erin Egan also added:

“We’ll take action to protect the privacy and security of our users, whether by engaging policymakers or , where appropriate, by initiating legal action, including by shutting down applications that abuse their privileges.”

It is nice to see that Facebook is taking a step forward to protect their users from unauthorized access into their Facebook profile. And as we all have been seeing, Facebook has been doing a lot of changes to their platform to stay on top of other competing social networks like Pinterest and Google+. This also marks the importance of Facebook in an individual’s life.
