Fix the Mobile Safari crashing issue on iOS 5 running on iPad and iPad 2 when the user load some javascript enabled content or a video. These simple troubleshooting methods will help you get out of this problem.
After a while, many of my readers have been reporting that their Mobile Safari has been crashing when viewing some content and like a virus, it has spread to other apps as well. So, almost immediately, we sent our NYC editor to the 5th Avenue Apple Store and got this thing sorted out. So, the guys at the Genius Bar did let us know why this issue was happening and how we could probably solve sitting at our desk.
This issue is mainly caused due to a bug in Javascript being rendered in Mobile Safari, ultimately affecting various parts of the mobile operating system that tries to use the Javascript API. Here’s what you could do to solve these issues:
[checklist]- Disable iCloud Bookmarks Sync [This can be done by Going to Settings > General > iCloud and turning off the Bookmark switch OFF]
- Delete Safari Cache [To do this, go to Settings > Safari > Clear History, Clear Cookies and Data]
- Clear almost all of the Safari Data [Just go to Settings > Safari > Autofill > Clear All and turn off the setting]
- Update to the latest iOS 5.
But unfortunately, if you are dependent on Jailbreak and need to stay on iOS 5.0, then it’s gonna be tough. I would recommend you doing a iOS 5.0.1 upgrade via a DFU. This should solve your problem. But I think Apple would fix this issue in their next update which is scheduled in the first week of March.
