The Indian Govt. demands to route all the incoming emails to the servers that are physically located in India. The privacy of the Indian Internet Citizens have gone worse!
Once we thought we settled with the data to be censored from Facebook and other social network, the Indian government is after your emails now. The Government has ordered email giants like Gmail and Yahoo! Mail to route the incoming emails to the users in the country to the servers that are physically located here in India. The new rule is not only for users in India but also for any user, who accesses his/her data from India.
The act is being imposed since the security officials can have real-time, direct and physical access to the servers and the information in them. A written statement has been filed in the court and Yahoo! has a suit giled against them. If we could roll back in time, BlackBerry has already setup their servers in Mumbai and they have already been under control of the security officials over there.
So, why is this being implemented? This was because the security officials were not able to access emails aof some suspects of the Indian Mujahideen case during their surveillance. Even though this might sound good, and I don’t think this would affect the normal users in India.
