A recent tweet by fellow Tweep shows that Google asks for a Credit Card to signup for a Gmail account. Are these signs of Gmail going premium for additional features?
If you have been following, Google shedded the Beta tag from Gmail some months agao and now, a twitter user has revealed that Gmail now asks for a Credit Card to get a Gmail account.
There’s been speculation before that Gmail might go premium anytime soon, but this might be a sign that the service would charge its users an amount based on storage! But still, on talking to a Googler inside, he reveals that the company has not planned anything as such, but nothing would stop them from doing it.
We will be in touch with the folks at Google to confirm this news. But as far as we expect, users who needs more storage might be charged to use the service!
Update: We can confirm that this is due to the Google Wallet integration. But still. Do we really need this for a Gmail account? We are not going to purchase anything on Gmail!!
