How to remove Carrier IQ logs from your Android smartphone! Completely banish the script that’s been spying you from the time you got your lovely phone in hand! Another Proof of Android being less secure!
Unless you were hiding under some huge rock, you would have heard about the Carrier IQ controversy that’s been making rounds almost everywhere. And who’s hit with this huge privacy issue? Well, its the Android users. The Carrier IQ service monitors almost everything that you do on your Android device. Right from key taps, voice calls, video calls, emails, text messages and more, almost everything you do on your device.
A new log checker has been developed by a developer named Trevor, the man who originally discovered this Carrier IQ issue. The tool checks if your device’s Carrier IQ has been spying you or not, and gives you a detailed report of what information have been stolen from your device. The tool also helps you check where the log gin information have been sent and where it’s being sent. And interestingly, I found a log that showed the install information of the apps that I was using.
I tested this app on the Samsung Galaxy S, Samsung Galaxy S II, HTC Wildfire, HTC Evo and Google Nexus S and have found loads of information were being transmitted from my phones. The tool also helps check the logs that Dropbox and other apps have been transmitting. The app, named CIQ Checks all these logs and reports it at the bottom of the screen!
The developer was generous enough to have a free version of the app. The paid version is much more intelligent than the free version. The paid app, which costs $0.99 in the Android Market reports all the Carrier IQ activity and also helps you remove all the logs from the service. You can download the app from the Android Market here. You can also track the changes to the app and report bugs here at the official thread.
