Fix “AppleBCMWLANcore: handle IOKitBusyWatchdogTimeout (): Error, no succesful firmware after 60000 ms. Giving up..” error while Jailbreaking your iOS 5 device using Redsn0w!
The recently released iOS 5 untethered Jailbreak has got a lot of attention and there has also been a lot of reports of the Jailbreak failing for some users and some users getting stuck in the boot mode (Not the recovery boot) when the Jailbreak codes are getting executed on the iOS device while booting up. One common error that many people came across with the recent Jailbreak was the “AppleBCMWLANcore: handle IOKitBusyWatchdogTimeout (): Error, no succesful firmware after 60000 ms. Giving up..”. Here’s what you need to know about this issue and how to fix this error really quick and tidy, without actually hurting your data on the device!
Wondering why you are experiencing this error? Well, this is pretty simple. This error occurs while the OS tries to write the Jailbreak code onto the device and fails with some attempts. But this particular AppleBCMWLANcore error is specifically for the errors in getting the IPSW packets from the Apple servers. The error is caught when it actually fails with the attempts that were made to download the packets from the servers.
How to fix AppleBCMWLANcore error:
This error is nothing to be worried of. There are multiple effects of this error on your device. And this error is not exactly predictable. Here are some of the effects of this error on your device:
- This error would probably have Wiped the user data from the device. So the next time you reboot after the fix, you will be in the initial settings screen!
- No effect at all. But a failed Jailbreak attempt on the device.
These were the two effect I was able to reproduce on my device for this error. And now, let’s have a look at how to fix this up.
The fix depends on the effect of the error. Here’s how you could find out what has happened to your device:
- To find the state of your device, just put your device in DFU mode when you are on the screen shown the error!
- Restart your device normally! You will not either see the Initial Setup screen or your normal iDevice’s screen!
If you are seeing the Initial Setup screen, then your data has been wiped off from the device and you need to Restore your device with iOS 5.0.1 from iTunes. After you have Restored your device with iOS 5.0.1 via iTunes, just start Redsn0w and follow these steps to Jailbreak your device again!
Now, coming to the second scenario, all we can say is, you are safe, but the Jailbreak has failed. All you need to do now is to just Switch off the WiFi, put your device in DFU mode, use Redsn0w to Re-Jailbreak your iOS device. If that ends up in a DFU mode or recovery loop, don’t worry. Just use Redsn0w to do a Tethered Boot and Restore your device and then Jailbreak again!
