Apple has acquired the flash memory maker, Anobit for about $500 million. And Apple is reportedly opening a R&D center in Israel following this acquisition.
Apple has reportedly purchased the flash memory manufacturing company, Anobit in Israel, according to a report by Reuters. This news comes out from a newspaper called Calcalist Financials and both Apple and Anobit are in the final stages of finishing the deal and are waiting for the official announcements.
Besides this huge purchase by Apple, the company is also planning for a R&D center in Israel. If the R&D center opens up in Israel for Apple, it would be the company’s First Research & Development center outside the United States. The main reason that Apple acquired the flash memory maker is that, they have developed a special kind of chip that would enhance the flash memory’s performance by Signal Processing. And these kinds of chips are already being used in Apple’s products like the iPad, iPhone and the MacBook Air.
This gives us a hint that these chips could improve the next generation MacBooks to have enhanced and faster storage than the ones today!
