iPhone 4S’ Siri voice recognition assistant has inspired an Android Dev Team recently and they’ve created an application called Iris.
Apple’s new iPhone 4S’ super cool feature is Siri, a voice based personal assistant. This technology seems to have inspired a lot of developers around the world. And this time, some devs of Android seems to have ported this technology onto Android devices.
Siri has been one of the major feature overhaul other than the mind blowing camera. Having said this, Apple also sold 4 million iPhone 4S in just 3 days from the launch day, of which Siri was the major selling point for the company. Android developer Dexetra have now ported this technology to Android devices.
Dexetra posted a blogpost on this release and he desperately wanted to port this on Android. He has written a small engine that answers the questions you shoot to the application. The application fetches the results from various sources front he web and replies back with almost the same voice as Siri does.
The best part about this is that, the developer ported this in just eight hours. He just made a rough draft of this technology and then created a good layout. And he has also tried to add some personality to this application.
The application is in alpha, and the device will require Voice Search and TTS Library be installed on the handset to get Iris up and running. He also admits that the application does not do well as Siri. But we can hope that the application will get mature in the days to come.
The app is available on the Android Market right now. Grab your copy of application. Thanks to Slashgear and Digital Trends for the heads-up!
