A new patent suggests that Apple is working on a Face Recognition system that would Auto-Recognize and Tag friends just by recognizing their Face.
A new patent suggests that Apple’s new future for Camera app relies on Face Recognition technology. The patent says that iOS users will be able to tag friends automatically as you point your camera to their face.
Once this comes out, all you’d have to do is to point your camera to your friend’s face or take a regular picture, this will inturn search the contact list and check if it could match your friends’ face with the image that pre-exists in the contact list, and tag your friend in that pic with their corresponding contact.
Apple’s Senior VP for Mobile, Phil Schiller revealed the Face Recognition improvement to the new Camera app on iPhone 4S earlier this month. The iPhone 4S is capable of recognizing the people’s face which are being covered in the lens. This patent might come to life in the next major version of iOS.
The accuracy is measured based on the number of photos a contact has on your device. Apple might add a second database to their contact list to enhance this feature.
The new technology will require very less user interaction to tag friends. And may be, in the future, if Facebook is integrated to iOS like Twitter, you will be able to just capture a picture, and your phone would tag your friends automatically and update it on Facebook. This might be a feature improvement in Apple’s next, iPhone 5.
