But some readers were not happy since iOS 5 did not outperform on their devices. Many readers have been raising this question about getting their UDID without iTunes. They don’t seems to be getting a to-the-point answers to solve this problem. This How-to will help you find your iPhone or iPad or iPod UDID without iTunes.
What is UDID?
A UDID is the Unique Device Identifier. This ID is assigned to each device that is coming out of production!
This will help you get your UDID when you are stuck in the restore mode of DFU mode. One way of finding your UDID is without a device plugged into your computer.
Method #1: Using the iPhone Configuration Utility: This is one of the simplest method to get your UDID when you are stuck on some iOS version and could not activate your phone via iTunes.
This method works on both Windows and Mac. All you need to do is download the iPhone Configuration Utility from Apple Support. Now connect your iPhone to the computer and you will find the UDID under the Identifier field. [The red highlighted part if your UDID]
Method #2: Using the existing backup In this method, we will be finding the existing backup file from your computer and decode the UDID. This may look complex, but this is simple. Here’s how you can execute this method.[alert_box]Note: This works only if you have backed up your iPhone to the PC before.[/alert_box]
On Windows:
Generally, your iPhone’s backup is named in the format {UDID} – {date}. So, you backup file name would be something like 28a3af1cxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx-06152011 or something of that sort. So, go ahead and rename the file removing the last part, which is the date. Go to this location on your Windows system: C:UsersUSERAppDataRoamingApple ComputerMobileSyncBackup
On a Mac:
This is same as that of the Windows method. But the backup location for mac is: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup
Method #3: Windows only. Registry hack.
This method is only valid for Windows. We will be editing a registry entry which deals with USB. Here’s how you can do.
