“Apple sells everything on experience” – John Sculley

Steve Jobs’ most famous dialog to John Sculley was “Do you want to sell sugar water for the rest of your life or do you want to come with me and change the world?”, after which John immediately took charge as the CEO of Apple. Here are some of the interesting thoughts he shared recently about Him, Apple and the world.

In an exclusive interview with Electricpig, Sculley tells what’s the difference between Steve Jobs and Bill Gates. Here’s what he had to say about both the giants:

“They both believed in a noble cause, that you had to define what you were doing around a way to change the world.”

He also shared some of the best thoughts of him working for Apple. Here’s what he shared about what he felt like, when he was interviewed by Apple.

“I said, Steve, let’s sell the experience of a lifestyle [As Sculley did with the Pepsi Generation campaign]. It was always about selling the experience and that was what interested Steve.”

John Sculley also tells how Apple has been successful throughout these years. He tells that

“If you look at Apple today everything is sold on experience.”

When talking about Apple’s revolutionary devices, Sculley says that it was only one person, Steve Jobs who revolutionized the mobile industry and changed everything that is present around us. He also added,

It took two years for the iPhone, it took one year for the iPad….there’s never been anything like that…The speed of adoption in this mobile era is totally unprecedented.

Looks like John Sculley is one among those cult that’s following Steve Jobs and he takes no regret in getting kicked out of Apple and regrets kicking Steve Jobs out of Apple.
